On the occasion of Bonjour India, a dialogue will take place at the India International Centre involving issues related to current affairs in France and in India. This bilateral dialogue will feature the leading policy-makers and intellectuals from both countries. The framework of this event has been designed by two leading intellectual & writer namely, Catherine Clément and Christophe Jaffrelot along with their Indian counter part, Dipankar Gupta and Rajeev Bhargava. With India’s leading role G-20 and a result of fruitful cooperation between France and India in various domains, this agora will discuss topics related to democracy, environment, national identity, social issues as well as cultural aspects of our two countries.
Hounorable India Minister of State Mr Shashi Tharoor and the Ambassador of France to India H. E. Jérome Bonnafont will address the inaugural session. The objective of the following sessions will be to identify and elaborate the national and international challenges faced by France and India, together and individually, in order to showcase the latest developments towards solutions. The discussants bear an international profile with effective expertise in a given domain.

Mobashar Jawar Akbar is a famous journalist in India. He is the founder and Editor-in-chief of the Asian Age. He also joined the Government of India as advisor to the Ministry of Human Resources in the nineties. He contributed to policy planning in the key areas of education, the National Literacy Mission and the protection of heritage. |

Balveer Arora is a professor of Political Science at Jawaharlal Nehru University since 1987. He holds a Phd from University of Paris I in Political science. He read History and Political science at St. Stephen’s college, Delhi, The Sorbonne, Paris and Sciences-Po. He has published several articles in collective works in India and abroad. |

Rajeev Bhargava is Senior Fellow and Director of the Centre for Study of Developing Societies. He was Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University between 2001 and 2005. Prior to this he was Professor of Political Theory & Indian Political Thought and Head of the Department of Political Science, University of Delhi. |

H.E.M. Jérôme Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India. Born in 1961, Jérôme Bonnafont graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques and the French National School of Administration. He started his diplomatic career at the French Embassy in India as Second Secretary, then First Secretary from 1986 to 1989. |

Catherine Clément is a major French philosopher, novelist, feminist, and literary critic. She graduated in philosophy from the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure. She then further her studies with Claude Lévi-Strauss and Jacques Lacan. She is also an expert on India and recently wrote the best-seller novel Edwina and Nehru. |

Dipankar Gupta is a former professor of sociology at the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He lectured in Europe and the USA. He writes regularly on socio-political issues in national Indian newspapers. |

Christophe Jaffrelot who graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, is an observer of political issues in South Asia. He has written many books on India and Pakistan. Christophe Jaffrelot is currently Senior Research Fellow at CERI (Science Po) which he headed between 2002 and 2008. |
