The French Embassy, !FAN (Indo French Alumni Network) ,CampusFrance and French Information Resource Centre, are very happy to invite you to the Eleventh “CAFÉ DES SAVOIRS”. It will be inaugurated by Mrs. Dominique Gasquet – Chargée de Mission Universitaire.

Theme of the Presentation : “Caste in India from system to identity”, guest speaker at this “Café des Savoirs” is :

 

Professor Dipankar Gupta, who is a former Professor of Sociology at the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, he has also taught abroad in Europe, United Kingdom and USA. He writes regularly on social-political issues in national newspapers and is the author of numerous titles including his latest book : The Caged Phoenix: Can India Fly? In recent times he has conducted a number of field based studies ranging from ethnicity to caste to farmers’ mobilization to modernity and agrarian distress. Currently he is writing up his field research on post conflict situation in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

On the occassion of this “Café des Savoirs” a presentation on Higher Education opportunities in France will be presented by CampusFrance at 5.30 pm.

Note to editors: This interactive debate is the continuation of our efforts to promote together with CampusFrance, the attractivity of the French Higher Education System, in order to increase the mobility of Indian students towards France.

 

 !FAN- With 100 patrons and 7000 members, !FAN is an initiative of the French Embassy to create a platform that facilitates linkages between Alumni, students and the diverse body of people, whether businessmen, artists, engineers, scientists, civil servants, administrators, journalists. The !FAN network creates a link between institutions of Higher Education and the corporate world both in India and in France, which make it easier to recruit the alumni and enhance the value of their French or Indian experience as an asset. !FAN will become a registered association by February 2010.

 

This interactive debate called "Café des savoirs" is a new concept existing since October 2008 and offering the possibility for students to exchange ideas with speakers who are experts on the topic. Cafés des Savoirs" will continue a series of multidisciplinary debates “Débat d’idées” . It has covered a range of interesting and exciting topics with the expertise of guest speakers belonging to the academic, corporate, scientific, artistic world such as "Is there an Indian Middle Class? by Professor Dipankar Gupta", "Challenges for Young Entrepreneurs" with Kevin Mueller Innova technology, Nishit Jain Country manager GGSB, and Jeremy Grasset from Shanti Travel "Challenges for Aviation Industry" with CEO Sébastien Guyot Commercial Director Air France and Paul Chevrin SNECMA Each presentation is 20 minutes in English and discussion will be around 40 minutes. The concept is organize once or twice a month, in universities, at the Alliance Française. “Duration: 1 hour, accompanied by tea / coffee & snacks.


The next Café des Savoirs on Graphic Novel will be part of the Francophonie Week on the 15th of March at the FIRC 2 Aurangzeb road.
